1) You are now using those same "hard drugs".
2) You are a religious fanatic and as such, you see everything that attacks the "military" as a "communist attack to destroy your (right) way of living".
4) Because you are convinced that all you've done you could have done it from scrap, starting in the stone age.
5) Because you are trying to provoke people.
6) All of the above.
Sadly, without proper guide, the large portion of society would end up butchering themselves. I'm an anarchist in the original sense of the word, meaning i don't need anyone to tell me what's right nor wrong, but not all people is so advanced. In fact so far i've encountered only few.

On politics: Chaplin was kind of neutral, sympathies with the left but never vote, non-conformist and against blind nationalism.
On his work: He considered that comedians and clowns work should be above politics. The fun before, the rest after..

it's not hard nor does it sound that odd. When you take your learning and your understanding of reality to the next level where you strive to teach and to learn as much about said subject as possible. I don't really see any problem with my choice in words. As for your conception of the average American, I think you show a lack of faith in your fellow man, which is most lementable.
It's just that if you think logically then all fanatism is simply not possible. Period. Fanatism implies a "faith", something that is beyond doubt and discussion, logics and by extension science can't be that way.
"American" is a continent, while US citizens is what you want to mean; regarding the defect you call "faith", i have none. Maybe one day you'll evolve too.
Anyways, to see this as a race is a biological error.
