Understand what you mean completely. Unfortunately, at this point, at least one generation of people has been convinced that there is such a thing, and they have a fierce loyalty to their adopted identity, kind of like an irrational brand loyalty. What's even more true is that goth is not a musical style but a way of dressing and posing.

this song makes obvious what bauhaus is all about.
the slow quieter rythem lets you concentrate on the lyrics more. I have heard that the sound is the body of a band and the lyrics the soul. Bauhaus's lyrics have always seemed like beautifully dark and visual poetry.. this famous song really allowed that to show through. They are gothic art incarnate... ever changing.. and never truly can one steriotype sum up an art work.

THANK YOU!! So sick and tired of seeing little 16 year olds wearing all black and black make up, yet they have no clue who the Bauhaus or Peter Murphy or Siouxsie and the Banshees are.... Yet they consider Lamb of God and Cradle of Filth Goth.....Damn annoying it is.. People need to educate themselves on these pseudo-identities they've picked up.

I enjoy Cradle of Filth, and though I agree that they need to properly adress their roots, it seems to be the norm. The pseudo-indenties have become the face of gothism. We can try to introduce Bauhaus, and Siouxsie, and those who accept will understand themselves and have a TRUE identity, all the while letting the fad followers disintigrate into confusion and nothingness whilst they clamor for their mainstream atrocities. BTW, I don't think ANYONE considers LOG goth, more political metal.

O yes. I'm a 16 year old guy, but I don't adress myself as goth. Or dress myself in horrible amounts of black. I consider myself post-punk and love Bauhaus among many other post-punk bands from the golden years =P.
